This shift reflects a broader European trend:

The 5G Standalone Transition: From Capability to Architecture

Beyond hardware, the deeper transformation lies in the transition toward 5G Standalone networks. Unlike earlier deployments that relied on legacy 4G cores, SA architecture enables a fully independent 5G ecosystem.

For operators like VMO2, this shift is not just technical—it is strategic.

5G SA unlocks:

This reflects a broader structural tension in the European telecom market:
